Module 4 CAREFREE IN AVIGNON
Carefree in Avignon
Artist: Sandy Goddard Oil/Arcylic on Canvas 48"x30" https://cottonwoodcenterforthearts.com/virtualgallery/coin-of-the-realm
The title of this artwork is Carefree in Avignon. The artist who created this peice is Sandy Goddard. Currently it is in the Cottonwood Center for the Arts in Colorado Springs. Carefree in Avignon is an oil and acrylic painting on canvas. In the foreground of the image is vibrant reddish-orange poppies. The perspective on these flowers makes them look huge and they take up 3/4 or more of the space. They are obviously the subject of the painting to me. In the background the viewer can see a field full of poppies and other green grasses. There are also some rolling hills pictured. There is a yellow house or building of some kind in the background as well. The house is painted with great detail, however, it is not the main subject of this peice. At the top of the painting is a orange sky which gives the idea this is painted during sunset. The shapes of the poppies are very round and the lines that are the stalks are sporadic like they would be in nature. You can almost see the flowers move in the wind. The color of the painting as a whole is vibrant and bold. The tone of this painting to me is: relaxation, peace, and serenity to me. It tells a story of a peaceful existence in the countryside of France. Maybe the yellow building is their house. Carefree in Avignon takes me to a restful and bright landscape and it is a beautiful painting.

Hello Grace,
ReplyDeleteI really like how you chose to discuss a locally featured art piece. Also your analysis of the images made me feel like i was seeing the painting with out seeing it. How it is though the wind touches the flowers and the bright colors of this painting make it exceptionally beautiful. I wish to know more about the artist after seeing this painting.
